Despite the weather, large numbers of
aviation enthusiasts and families alike
made the journey to RAF Waddington
in Lincolnshire for one of the UK’s
largest air show events.
One of the main themes of this years show
was the fortieth anniversary of the RAF
display team, the Red Arrows. As part of
the Red Arrows celebrations a gnat joined
in a fly past to mark this special occasion.
Other teams such as the Italian, Frecce
Tricolori and the Spanish, Patrulla
Aguila were also there to celebrate the
occasion. Even with the weather
changing rapidly everything in the flying
schedule managed to display without a
problem. The display routines went
smoothly, with the highlights being the
Belgian F-16 AM and the Eurofighter
Typhoon.
The Austrian Saab 105 also made a
welcome return, with the German Navy
Tornado IDS sadly making its last public
display before the squadron is disbanded.
Other aircraft in the flying display of
interest, the Battle of Britain Memorial
Flight consisting of the Spitfire, Hurricane
and the Lancaster.
If you didn’t fancy watching the
flying displays then there was a
varied and interesting static park.
Including Turkish phantoms a Dutch
F-16, Italian AMX’s, German Air Force
Phantom and Tornado IDS’s. Also on
display, aircraft from the Royal Air
Force’s OEU ‘ Operational Evaluation
Unit ‘.
Whether it be fast or slow, big or small
there was something to appeal to people
of all ages.
